New Pumps are made very differently. They have less friction, last longer and basically produce more for less. You don't need as much power as you have either probably. Dual-Speed motors also provide the ability to circulate your pool for a longer period of time without using as much power.
So no matter how old your pump you can probably save money in the long run by buying a new one. It will probably run quieter too! SDG&E is currently offering large rebates for installing several pool pumps. So there is no better time than now to start saving energy!
