Filter Cleaning and Maintenance

There are several kinds of filters used for removing particles from the water in a swimmin pool or spa.

• Cartridge Filter - These filters use paper cartiridges to filter the particles from water. They are cheaper but the cartridges must be replaced more often and they do not catch the tiny particles that DE and Sand Filters do.
• Diatomaceous Earth (DE) Filter - These filters use grids which are covered with a very fine dust called Diatomaceous Earth or DE after each cleaning. Usually these filters are much more efficient and can be bashwashed regularly to prevent too many cleanings. This is the preffered filter type for a home pool.
• Sand Filter - These filters are large and use sand to filter small particles out of the water. They are usually used for large industrial and commercial swimming pools.

All of these types of filter require regular maintenance in addition to the regular cleanings that usually occur at least once a week. Typically if your pool is using the right size of filter and only gets normal use for a home, you will only have to have the filter cleaned 2-3 times a year. This is usually an additional charge. Sometimes the filter will need to get cleaned more often if it is too small for your pool or you use your pool more than normal.

Filter Repairs and Installations

Often the grids and cartirges for filters need to be replaced. If your filter isn't cleaned regularly you are going to need to get parts replaced more often.
